I don't know how many snowbirds are braving the heat this summer in Fort Myers, but it seems like those of us that are still have some pretty good rewards for doing so!
The Corkscrew Sanctuary just east of Fort Myers recently made national headlines for the third annual appearance of the rare ghost orchid visible from the boardwalk in the park.

Hello to everyone---
It seems that I am going to have to delay my move to Fort Myers for a year. I have had some unexpected health concerns and added to the stress of a daughter getting married August 1st, I have to relax! It was a hard pill to take, but I am trying to just go with the flow! I STILL think I will move there in the next year or two- but I have to take one thing at a time. I am EXTREMELY disapointed- but things will work out someday. I will be down in the spring- and hopefully thin…

Hello, I am a 1st time snowbird. So any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking on the internet at various apartment rentals. I live on a widows income, so I can't afford anything too outrageous. $750.00 Max. So I hope that you will have some ideas for me? Thank you

Hi everyone- I am new to this site---
I am possibly moving down to Fort Myers in September- and wondered if there is a resource for senior apartment rentals in the area? I am not interested in renting where the spring break crowd will overwhelm me-- and i want to meet active, independent seniors over 55!
Any ideas?
thanks

My family knows I'm a big fan of the Downtown Ft. Myers River District. Its easily the most historical area in Ft. Myers and the architecture is amazing. On Saturday night my girlfriend and I took a trip downtown and got some snapshots of the area-I really couldn't do it justice at night! Check out the pictures by clicking the 'photo' tab above.

My girlfriend just sent me this from the Wall St. Journal:
The Latest in Mental Health: Working Out at the 'Brain Gym'. It looks like the science is still on the fence about how useful doing math and memory problems is for staving off alzheimers, but entreprenuers in Sarasota and California have founded 'Brain Gyms' that are full of computer equipment to keep your grey matter toned. Wonder if something like this will make its…

Hey Everybody,
The site has been up for about three weeks now and we're doing very well in popularity and google rankings. We've had about 2.7k hits over the month and about 500 visitors. We're doing very well in Florida (no surprise) and I'm proud to say we've even gone international in the last few days. Thats right, we have real, live Canadians on our site!

Sweet! As alw…

Also, I should give a shout-out to Ritz Camera in Coconut Point Mall. Chuck helped me out greatly when I needed some equipment to set this shot up-it was done with a Pentax *istDS on a Quantaray Tripod. Thanks Chuck!

Every morning I wake up to the sound of this little guy hammering away at a metal street light. This has been going on for at least 6 months, and he's not in the least bit deterred with his lack of progress. I'm not sure if this is has any deeper existential meaning, but he has got to be the dumbest wood pecker in San Carlos Park. Wonder what he eats?
